A Few Examples of Satire

To give everyone a good idea of what satire actually is, here are a few works of literature and even a shady adult cartoon that are definite satires and some of the bests.

George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four - This novel depicts a then future where all of society was oppressively over run by a totalitarian government that watched every move citizens made and dictated their every choice. This future civilization is a satirical mockery of a dystopia and a message of dire importance was relayed through Orwell's book - what happens when we give the government too much control?

Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club - Fight Club is a book that takes a stab at the humor in masculinity, the shame in consumerism, and the possible truth to all notions of nihilism. Palahniuk uses this satire to make you ponder the meaning in everything you do in life.

Comedy Central's South Park - This is an adult cartoon that depicts four middle school students who encounter real some very mature situations. The premise of the show is basically that middle school isn't much different from real adult life. There are tons of similar situations throughout.
