The
Central City Circumnavigation Conundrum

A good friend of mine
asked me recently why exactly Central City is named what it is. "It doesn't
seem to be the center of anything at all," he said, certainly suggesting
that I was meant to search for the solution to his silly, selfish question.
So, subsequently, I was inclined to start the search for the history behind
the Central City nomenclature.
As I looked through
almanacs and encyclopedias, suddenly I was struck with a simple solution
- Central City's name came from a Circularly Circumscribed Circumnavigatable
Centrally Centered Circular shape of some sort! So, I had discovered the
elusive answer to a baffling dilemma. I returned to my friend's flat to
fully relay the story to him.
You see, it's really
quite simple: Central City does not seem to be the center of any structure,
state, or similar area. However, it is the center of a centrally circumscribed
circle originating from the center of the city! These diagrams will explain
it all:
| 1.
Central City, located here, seems lonely and deserted and not really
central to anything. |
 |
|
2.
When one circumscribes an imaginary circle surrounding Central City,
centered around its central point, something seems to surface - suddenly,
Central City is the center of the circle! Eureka! |
| 3.
The only possible explanation for the city's name is this: the founders
of the city assembled a large circle around it with a radius of approximately
one mile, using bales of hay and bits of broken wood. |
 |
|
4.
They then climbed to the top of a nearby mountain (which has since
been eroded) and looked at the circle from the top. |
| 5.
From this angle, the circle was clearly visible. The men discovered,
to their amazement, that Central City was exactly in the center of
that circle! Imagine their excitement and surprise! |
 |
|
6.
And so, the city was named "Central City", in memory of its coincidental
location in the very center of the circle circumscribed around it.

Thank you, my friends,
for hearing my story - I hope this clears up any questions you may have
been meaning to ask.
Sincerely,
